The incident happened in West Green Road near Green Lanes, Tottenham, just before 1am today (April 28).
Officers attended and the pedestrian was found injured and taken to hospital for treatment.
His injuries were assessed as serious but are not believed to be life-changing.
The driver stopped at the scene but there have been no arrests while police enquiries continue.
West Green Road, a busy shopping street, was closed briefly in the night but was open by 7.30am.
The AA reported of the closure: “A504 West Green Road in both directions partially blocked due to police incident from A105 Green Lanes (Ducketts Common, Harringay) to A10 High Road (Tottenham).”
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “Police were called at 00:54hrs on Monday, 28 April to West Green Road, N15 following reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and a car.
“The pedestrian was taken to hospital with serious injuries which are not believed to be life-changing.
“The driver stopped at the scene. Enquiries are ongoing.”
