Torriano Meeting House, in Torriano Avenue in Kentish Town, was targeted by a lone man at around 6pm on March 27.
The front door was plastered with posters branding peace campaigners as criminals and the building’s door was glued shut while the organisation’s secretary was inside.
The incident took place shortly before campaign group Camden Friends of Palestine was set to meet.
The community centre was founded 43 years ago by Holocaust survivor John Rety, his partner Susan Johns, and their daughter Emily, and hosts 12 groups including children’s group Woodcraft Folk, poetry readings and craft workshops.
Emily Johns, treasurer of the meeting house, said: “Attacks on community centres are attacks on the community.
“This will cost our volunteer-run and funded group an enormous amount of money to repair. We need to replace the lock and get a new set of keys for all the other user groups.”
She said the incident happened just before the meeting by the CFOP while one of the people who runs the meeting house was in the building.
She said somebody put superglue in the lock but the staff member managed to escape while the glue was still wet.
Ms Johns added: “By the time the Friends had arrived the glue had set and the man who did it came back with a mask over his face, dark glasses and a hood. He was a big man and started swearing at people and trying to film them close to their faces.”
In an attempt to de-escalate the situation Ms Johns walked with the man as he left.
She added: “He was accusing the Friends of being terrorists and Torriano Meeting House of supporting terrorism which is just nonsense.
“This makes people frightened and generally anxious now.
“We want to support peace groups in the community. That they are working to have a world without war is important.”
A spokesperson for CFOP said the vandalism “seemed clearly designed to intimidate and prevent us from organising”.
“This was a blatant act of vandalism against a community centre frequented by children’s groups,” they added.
The Metropolitan Police has been contacted.
