The free event on April 24 will allow people to learn more about the sewage treatment works and the history of the pumping station.
Crossness Sewage Treatment Works, in the Borough of Bexley, serves a large part of South London, including Putney, Thamesmead, and Bromley.
The open day will take place between 3pm and 7pm, and visitors will be able to meet the operating team and learn about current and future investment plans for the site.
This is part of Thames Water’s plan to upgrade 250 of its wastewater sites to manage increased demand due to population growth and climate change.
The open day is supported by volunteers at Crossness Engines Trust.
Members of the public will be able to discuss the history of the pumping station and gain an understanding of the sanitation challenges previously faced by Victorian London.
The Trust will also be coordinating regular train rides between the entrance gates and the venue.
Thames Water’s customer and stakeholder manager for South London said: “We are really excited to have the opportunity to engage and talk with the local residents in Thamesmead, our neighbours, about the sewage treatment works and to be holding the event in the magnificent Beam Engine House at Crossness Engines Trust.”
