Joseph Charm appeared on the talent show last Saturday (April 19) to deliver his comedic act in front of judges Bruno Tonioli, Alesha Dixon, Amanda Holden, and Simon Cowell.
The 32-year-old explained that he had recently quit his job to pursue comedy.
He said: “To be here right now is the biggest dream.”
Joseph brought his wife to the auditions, and he said that she had been “incredibly supportive” after he quit his job.
Joseph kicked off his audition by singing the opening line of ‘Everybody Dance Now,’ encouraging the audience to shout back ‘Dance now’ after he called out ‘Everybody.’
He explained: “I only wanted to do that to show Simon I could sing a little bit in case he thought I wasn’t funny.”
He went on to ask if anybody in the audience wanted children in the future.
When the members of the audience reacted, Joseph replied, “Idiots,” sending the judges into hysterics.
He added: “Parenting is the ghetto.
“But instead of the kids robbing you of your phone and your items, they rob you of your sleep and your dignity.
“Let me tell you a true story – this is how my son used to wake me up.
“DADDY! DADDY! SOMEBODY!
“I’d be lying next to my wife going ‘It’s 5am, why is he acting like a hostage?’
“And, parents, we’re the hostages.”
Alesha Dixon agreed with Joseph’s hostage jab.
Joseph said that parents then become “addicted to respite” and seek any opportunity to get a little break.
They then find the “biggest gang on the street – the nurseries.”
He satirically pointed out how nursery childcare charges you £1,000 a minute, to which Joseph questioned whether they were giving the children caviar.
He played the role of a nursery teacher who informs parents that their child had slept for several hours.
Joseph concluded his audition with: “Parenting is the ghetto.
“But listen, as nuts as it is, it’s so nice, I had to do it twice.”
Joseph became emotional as he thanked the audience and judges for their applause and cheers.
Alesha Dixon said: “I loved that because it was genuinely so relatable.
“But more importantly, your delivery and confidence and charm on stage really shone.
“I’m really happy for you – congratulations.”
Amanda Holden said: “for me, I just kept thinking how hard it is to get to this point, and the bravery, and the moment where you went ‘You know what, I’m going to make enough money to support my family doing my dream’ and now you’re on stage doing it.
“So, well done, you did it.”
Bruno said: “I loved the physicality of your presentation.
“When you feel it, you’ve got to show it.
“Everyone here was totally captivated by you
“That’s a great quality, great job.”
Simon Cowell said: “This means a lot to you.
“Comedy, I think, is the hardest thing to do, because if you lose the audience, there’s nothing you can do.
“But you’ve just won us over.”
Joseph received four yeses from the judges.
Britain’s Got Talent will be going live over the next six Saturdays for the Live Semi-Finals followed by the Live Finals on ITV.
