YMCA Thames Gateway Group announced yesterday (May 2) that a member died in the morning after a “medical emergency” at the branch on Rush Green Road.
The group said in a statement: “Despite the immediate response of our residents, members and staff, who initiated CPR, and the rapid arrival of emergency medical services, the individual tragically passed away.
“Our heartfelt condolences go out to the member’s family, friends, and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.
“Out of respect for the privacy of the individual and their family, we will not be releasing any further details at this time.”
Earlier that day, the group said the gym would reopen as 5.30am today (May 3), while classes and other services operated as usual during the gym closure.
YMCA and the London Ambulance Service have been approached with further questions.
