Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters were sent to the scene after flames ripped across open land just after 11am.
Around four hectares of grassland were damaged before the fire was brought under control at 1.59pm.
London Fire Brigade confirmed one of its specialist Wildfire Response Vehicles was deployed.
The off-road unit can carry nearly 500 litres of water and allows crews to pump as they drive, helping to tackle fast-spreading grass fires.
The Brigade’s drone team was also used to provide an aerial view for the Incident Commander.
Control officers said they received 25 calls about the blaze, with crews from East Greenwich, Plumstead and Eltham fire stations among those who attended
