The incident took place on Tuesday afternoon, January 7, prompting a major police investigation and widespread travel disruption.
The attack occurred around 2.30 pm on Woolwich Church Street near the A205 South Circular.
Transport for London (TfL) has confirmed that staff affected by the tragedy are being supported. Rosie Trew, TfL’s Head of Bus Service Delivery, expressed condolences to the boy’s family and friends, describing the incident as “horrific.”
TfL is working closely with the Metropolitan Police and bus operator Stagecoach, providing CCTV footage from the bus and surrounding area to assist with the investigation.
The boy, who sustained serious stab wounds, was treated by paramedics but died shortly after they arrived.
No arrests have been made, and police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
The stabbing has caused significant disruption in Woolwich.
Woolwich Church Street remains closed in both directions, and the Woolwich Ferry Roundabout is cordoned off, with traffic diverted.
Bus routes 161, 177, 180, and 472 are also on diversion. TfL is urging passengers to check its website or app for real-time updates and to allow extra travel time.
TfL has reminded the public of the Sarah Hope Line, a confidential support service for those affected by traumatic incidents on the transport network.
Rosie Trew, TfL’s Head of Bus Service Delivery, said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the boy who has been tragically killed in this horrific incident.
“Alongside the bus operator, Stagecoach, we are working with the police to assist them in their investigation.
“Colleagues who have been affected by the incident are being supported.”
