Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield (URW) has launched the next stage of consultation on plans to redevelop Croydon town centre.
The Whitgift Centre would be transformed into a mixed-use area with new homes, shops, and green spaces.
Centrale shopping centre will be refurbished to modernise the layout and attract major brands.
The historic Allders building will reopen with shops and food outlets this autumn, with longer-term plans to turn it into a hub for culture and learning while keeping its historic look.
Residents can also help shape long-term plans to turn the historic Allders building into a hub for leisure, education, and culture. This phase of consultation builds on feedback from last year and follows Croydon Council’s approval of the masterplan in February 2025.
Adam Smith, Strategic Development Director, Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield, said: “This next phase of consultation represents a key milestone in refining our masterplan framework.
“Our ambition is to collaborate with the people of Croydon to help us design and create a vibrant, residential-led, mixed-use destination that reflects the needs and aspirations of Croydon’s communities with new public spaces, revitalised retail and leisure offers with community and sustainability at its heart.”
Jason Perry, Mayor of Croydon, added: “The regeneration of Croydon town centre remains a top priority for me, and I have been working with partners to drive forward my Town Centre Vision and Growth Plan for the borough.
“Our partnership with URW is fundamental to the town centre regeneration and I encourage Croydonians to take the opportunity to help shape the proposed plans.
“We will continue to work together to transform our town centre and secure much-needed improvements for everyone who lives, works and visits Croydon.”
The next phase of consultation runs from July 16 to July 30, with interactive exhibitions at Unit 55 in Centrale on North End.
People can also give feedback online until early September.
This is the second of several consultations planned throughout 2025 to help shape the masterplan before a planning application is submitted.
Recently, Croydon Council and URW denied rumours that Westfield had pulled out of redeveloping the Whitgift Centre and Centrale, after it had been reported that the company was going to.
The Whitgift Centre is currently home to more than 50 empty units.
In May 2025, Mayor Jason Perry invited investors and stakeholders to the Growth Plan and Town Centre Vision.
Penny Cameron, Head of Development at URW, was also in attendance, where she said the people of Croydon would see visible change.
She said: “Between Whitgift and Centrale, there’s an awful lot going on in the background, but hopefully over the coming six months, there will be a lot more for the people of Croydon to see on the ground and in the future.”
Mayor Perry said: “Working with URW, they’ve got the Masterplan, and that’s about a mixed-use Whitgift Centre.
“So, we will see more residential, but we’ll see the creation of streets and a much nicer place in the town centre.
“A mixed economy of education, culture, immersive experience and residential.
“I think we’ll see a very different place coming forward.”
