If you haven’t already been told about Lossless, you should get a notification once it becomes available to you.
Only Premium subscribers will be able to use the new feature which “delivers the highest music audio quality on Spotify”, according to the music streaming platform.
“The wait is finally over; we’re so excited lossless sound is rolling out to Premium subscribers,” said Gustav Gyllenhammar, VP Subscriptions at Spotify.
“We’ve taken time to build this feature in a way that prioritizes quality, ease of use, and clarity at every step, so you always know what’s happening under the hood. With Lossless, our premium users will now have an even better listening experience.”

Lossless improves the quality of sound for Premium subscription holders with songs now able to be streamed in up to 24-bit/44.1 kHz FLAC.
How to set up Lossless on Spotify
If you’d like to turn on Lossless, here’s how you can via the Spotify app.
Go to your profile in the top left and click through to settings and privacy, then press media quality.
Choose where you want to enable lossless audio – either Wi-Fi, cellular or downloads.
Lossless will need to be activated on each device you listen to Spotify on if you plan on using it on multiple devices.

Lossless will appear in the Now Playing view or bar and via the Connect Picker so you can check if it’s turned on.
Spotify recommends using Lossless on Wi-Fi while using wired headphones or speakers that aren’t on a Bluetooth connection.
Bluetooth doesn’t have “enough bandwidth to transmit lossless audio, so the signal has to be compressed before being sent”, Spotify explains.
Audio files can be bigger if you’re using Lossless so you might notice playing a track takes a second but you will be ready to listen once it has loaded and cached.
