The incident occurred at 5.56pm on Wednesday, May 7, after officers were called to Station Road reports of suspicious behaviour.
One officer was attacked during an exchange with a man and suffered serious injuries.
His condition is not life-threatening or life-changing.
The man was tasered at the scene “to prevent him causing further harm”, according to police.
He was then arrested on suspicion of Grievous Bodily Harm.
Asif Ahmadziy, 27, of South Road, Birmingham, was charged that evening.
He appeared at Croydon Magistrates’ Court.
