The Waterstones at Orpington’s Nugent Shopping Centre closed its doors on February 16 following “almost two decades” of trading on the site.
The bookshop was reportedly “forced to close” following circumstances between the company and the bookshop’s landlord.
In a notice the company wrote that it would return to a new premises in Orpington in the future, however the new location of the bookshop has not been confirmed.
Customers are being encouraged to use alternative branches in the meantime whilst the Orpington branch is closed, including the nearby branch at The Glades in Bromley.
The full statement from Waterstones reads: “Sadly, circumstances between Waterstones and this bookshop’s landlord have left no other option than the immediate closure of Waterstones Orpington. Our last day of trade will be this Sunday 16 February.
“Over almost two decades of trade at Nugent Shopping Park, it has been a pleasure to serve our local community, and we now look forward to our return elsewhere to Orpington in the future.
“In the meantime, we welcome your custom at any of our other Waterstones bookshops.
“Our nearest is Waterstones Bromley at The Glades Shopping Centre, 100 High St, Bromley BR1 1DJ, or alternatively you can visit us online.”
We have approached Waterstones for comment.
