Police were called to Hillingdon Street at 9.16pm on Monday, April 14, following multiple reports of a stabbing and sightings of people carrying knives.
Officers and paramedics from the London Ambulance Service attended the scene, where they found a 21-year-old man with serious stab wounds.
Despite their efforts, he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim has now been formally identified as Giovanny Rendon Bedoya from Walworth.
His family has been informed and is being supported by specialist officers.
Detective Chief Inspector Kate Blackburn, who is leading the investigation, said: “We know there were a number of people in the area on Monday night.
“Many will have seen the group involved or may have crucial information that could help us.
“Were you in Hillingdon Street that evening? Did you see anyone acting suspiciously or carrying a knife?
“Please, if you saw or heard anything — or have footage from your phone, dashcam, or doorbell — come forward. Even a small detail could be vital.”
DCI Blackburn confirmed that six people were arrested in the immediate aftermath of the incident.
Of those, three have since been released with no further action and three others have been bailed while enquiries continue.
“We’re working tirelessly to find out exactly what happened and to bring those responsible to justice,” she added.
Detective Superintendent Emma Bond, acting BCU Commander for Lambeth and Southwark, acknowledged the shock the incident has caused locally.
“This kind of violence is devastating, and I understand the fear and concern this brings to the community,” she said.
“We have increased patrols in the area this week — if you have any concerns or need support, please speak to our officers.”
She also echoed the call for witnesses, urging anyone with information to contact police on 101, quoting CAD7392/14APR.
Alternatively, information can be given anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
“Our thoughts remain with Giovanny’s loved ones at this incredibly difficult time,” she added.
The investigation is ongoing.
