An email sent to St Mary’s Primary School this morning (April 14) is “being taken seriously”, with reassurances given to parents.
The Church of England school on Brooke Road teaches over 500 pupils aged between five and 11, while its Little Learners Nursery teaches one to four-year-olds.
The school was closed for the Easter Holidays but the nursery was operating off-site, and has been closed for at least the morning.
The nature of the threat is not yet known but it is not thought to have a connection to faith.
While it is the only school in Walthamstow to receive the threat, it was also sent to schools in South Yorkshire.
The nursery section has been confirmed as closed for the morning while police are on site to investigate.
They are working with police in South Yorkshire to find who sent the threat.
Stella Creasy, MP for Walthamstow, said: “I know that parents are sharing the understandably concerning email about St Marys school they have received this morning.
I can confirm that the school has received a threat that is being taken seriously. I recognise this is shocking – for someone to threaten a school.”
She added: “The police are working with the school and with their colleagues in South Yorkshire to apprehend the perpetrator.
“There is nothing to suggest in either the threat made or the schools involved any faith connection to this incident.
“The school have made arrangements to support the children attending the nursery offsite so if your child is one of those please do contact them for further details.”
Threats sent to schools in Gravesend in Kent forced them to close in early February 2025.
A 17-year-old girl from Gravesend and a 17-year-old boy from Finchley were later arrested.
The Metropolitan Police has been contacted for comment.
