It said Higham Hill and Lloyd Park Centres, two nurseries run by Lloyd Park Children’s Charity, have halved their disposable nappy waste through a reusable nappy pilot.
The scheme, launched by the council in partnership with Real Nappies for London, has reduced nappy waste by 240 litres each week and cut waste disposal costs by more than £4,000 over the course of a year.
An early years educator at one of the nurseries said: “In the beginning it was challenging as it was new.
“But over time it has become easier as the team are getting used to it.”
Councillor Clyde Loakes MBE, deputy leader and cabinet member for climate and air quality, praised the pilot’s impact.
He said: “This isn’t just about a one-time choice, it’s about building a healthier, more sustainable future for our children too.
“This partnership is a fantastic way to encourage parents, and give them the support they need, to make the switch.
“It’s an easy win for families and a big win for our planet, one nappy at a time.”
The council now hopes to expand the scheme to more nurseries across the borough.
