The council plans to introduce three “modal filters” at Dunedin Road and York Road, Adelaide Road and York Road, and Lyttelton Road, near York Road.
These filters will allow pedestrians, cyclists, and emergency vehicles to pass through, but restrict other motor vehicles.
This aims to prevent the roads from being used as shortcuts, the council said, and addresses residents’ concerns about congestion and speeding.
The council also proposes upgrading the existing speed cushions on Lyttelton and Adelaide Roads to humps, making it harder for motorists to drive around them and reducing speeding.

The council will implement these proposals under an experimental traffic management order, allowing residents to provide feedback for up to 18 months before deciding if the scheme should become permanent.
If made permanent, the council plans to introduce six continuous footways/blended crossings to make it easier for pedestrians to cross the road.
The council is also considering adding planting to the filters, creating a green corridor between Coronation Gardens and Leyton station.
Residents have until March 17, 2025, to provide feedback on the proposals through a survey.
