The funding was announced to coincide with World Homelessness Day on October 10.
Waltham Forest Council is set to receive £207,920 in a bid to bolster support for families in temporary accommodation and expand recovery services for those sleeping rough or at risk of homelessness.
Redbridge Council will get £252,431.
The government said the uplift is part of a wider £84 million national package to assist councils in preventing homelessness, reducing rough sleeping, and improving outcomes for vulnerable households across England.
