London Tyres (Hornchurch), at 139 Hornchurch Road, has been handed a planning enforcement notice by Havering Council after opening without permission.
The enforcement notice states that the business owner must stop using the premises for tyre fitting, balancing and repairs, and remove all the equipment associated with this, such as ramps, hoists and lifts.
If this is not done by July 18, London Tyres could face prosecution or “remedial action” by the council.

According to the notice, the premises underwent an “unlawful” change of use after planning permission was refused in January 2024.
At the time, Havering Council’s planning team concluded that the proposal, submitted by applicant Munawar Iqbal, would be “unacceptably detrimental” to the neighbours of the site, due to noise and vehicle movements.
The enforcement notice issued on March 19 said: “The council does not consider that planning permission should be granted because planning conditions attached to any consent would not overcome these problems, and because planning permission has already been refused on January 4, 2024.”

London Tyres can appeal the notice until April 18, at a cost of £1,156.
The property was once used to provide care services, but was vacant when it was bought by Mr Iqbal, according to the previous planning statement.
London Tyres (Hornchurch) declined to comment when approached by the Recorder.
