Two Greenwich employers have been publicly named by the government for failing to pay the minimum wage.
PK Sales & Lettings Ltd, based in Woolwich, left five workers short by a total of £11,885.46, according to new figures released by the Department for Business and Trade.
Euro Car Wash (South East) Limited, based in Charlton, underpaid three members of staff by £992.56.
They’re among 518 employers across the UK found to have broken minimum wage laws – leaving nearly 60,000 workers collectively out of pocket by more than £7.4 million.
The underpayments were uncovered through HMRC investigations carried out between 2015 and 2022.
All the companies named have since paid back what they owe, and were hit with financial penalties of up to 200 per cent of the original underpayments.
Employment Rights Minister Justin Madders said: “There is no excuse for employers to undercut their workers, and we will continue to name companies who break the law and don’t pay their employees what they are owed.”
The announcement comes as part of the government’s wider push to “make work pay”, alongside a rise in the National Living Wage and new laws aiming to boost workers’ rights.
Officials say the recent minimum wage uplift puts an extra £1,400 a year into the pockets of full-time workers, at a time when many households are still feeling the squeeze.
