The Sunday Times has listed Twickenham in Richmond as one of the best places to live in London.
The Sunday Times judges visited each place and examined factors such as schools, transport, broadband, mobile signal, culture, green spaces, and the health of the high street.
The crime rate in Twickenham stands at 121.8 crimes per 1,000 population, slightly lower than the London average of 133.1 crimes per 1,000 people.
Twickenham benefits from its variety of housing options, which are substantially lower than Richmond, Kew, Barnes, and St Margarets.
Twickenham is also home to several parks, like Twickenham Green and Crane Park.
It also houses Kneller Gardens and Murray Park, both of which won Green Flag awards in 2024.
Twickenham also has great transport links.
It is just a 25-minute train journey to London Waterloo, and there are direct services to Richmond, Wimbledon, Kingston, and Clapham Junction.
The Sunday Times noted the sense of vibrant communities in Twickenham, helped by the string of independent shops, cafes, restaurants, and the bustling Church Street.
There’s also a Saturday farmer’s market and well-maintained playgrounds.
Helen Davies, editorial projects director and Best Places to Live editor, said: “It is easy to feel overwhelmed by everything going on in the world, but there really is so much to celebrate closer to home, from small gestures that lift the everyday from verges blooming with daffodils to volunteer-run dementia cafés, to new initiatives from repair cafés to new railway stations.
“What makes our guide unique is that we actually visit all the places we choose and talk to locals to find out what life is really like there.
“That means we can see what people really love about the places they live.
“That could be anything from exceptional schools and fast trains to beautiful houses and countryside.
“The health of the high street is important, but more than anything else, what we are looking for are towns, villages and cities with strong communities who work hard to make the best of where they live and play hard too.”
