Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters have been tackling the blaze in Tunnel Avenue since 6.15pm today (November 4).
The fire is producing a significant amount of smoke and people in the local area are advised to keep windows and doors closed.
A number of road closures are in place in the area including both the Blackwall Tunnel and Silvertown Tunnel for drivers travelling northbound only.
Tunnel Avenue and Blackwall Lane have also been closed.
Drivers travelling northbound are advised to find alternative routes and to expect extended journey times.
Motorists travelling southbound through the Blackwall Tunnel may also face some disruption.
Fire crews from East Greenwich, Greenwich. Deptford, Poplar and surrounding are at the scene.
Two 32-metre turntable ladders are also in attendance and are being used as water towers to help extinguish the fire from above.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
