The incident happened in Mitcham Road near Garrat Lane just before 3.30am yesterday (January 18).
Officers, an ambulance crew, a paramedic in a fast response car and an incident response officer were sent to the scene.
The man was treated for stab wounds before being taken to hospital as a priority.
Police confirmed the 38-year-old’s injuries have been assessed as neither life-threatening nor life-changing.
The Metropolitan Police said no arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 3.27am on Sunday 18 January to reports of a stabbing on Mitcham Road, SW17.
“We sent resources to the scene including an ambulance crew, a paramedic in a fast response car and an incident response officer.
“We treated a man for stab wounds and took him to a major trauma centre as a priority.”
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: “At 03:25hrs on Sunday, 18 January, officers responded to reports of a stabbing in Tooting, south London.
“Officers found one victim, a man aged 38, at the scene on Mitcham Road.
“He was taken to hospital where his injuries have been assessed as neither life-threatening nor life-changing.
“No arrests have been made.
“Enquiries are ongoing.
“Anyone with information about the incident which may help officers is asked to call 101 quoting 968/18JAN.
