The Three Travellers Pub in Wood Lane is closed temporarily for a renovation that will see it equipped with a new restaurant.
Our reporter called the number listed on a sign in the pub’s window and was answered by a Mr Akhtar, who said he was the owner of the property.
He said: “It is be going to be under new management and they will be doing a full renovation of the property inside and out.
“We are just waiting for the final papers to be signed.
“The new people may possibly take over this week.”
Mr Akhtar said he could not provide any additional information on the new managers.
There are multiple signs displayed at the front of the pub informing passers-by of the closure (Image: Gianni Cirillo) When asked for a timeframe of the pub reopening, he said: “God knows – for the last three or so weeks we have been trying to remove rubbish from the pub.”
He said the pub is set to undergo “a complete renovation” and will reopen as “a pub as it was, plus a restaurant”.
He added that the building will include a “really nice-looking restaurant” before it reopens.
On a Barking and Dagenham Council licencing list from January 2024, the licence holder for the pub was listed as Romford-based Consortium Properties PLO Ltd.
According to Companies House, its director is Mohammad Akhtar and its secretary is Najeeb Akhtar.
The property has been listed on Zoopla available to let for £70,000 per annum.
Included in the price tag is the pub area and restaurant, large garden with outdoor seating, an office, cellar, and more.
The listing has been described as a “fantastic opportunity” by agents Countrywide, who have described the watering hole as a “substantial” local pub.
According to Zoopla, the pub is split over two floors with a manager’s flat to the first floor, encompassing three bedrooms, a kitchen, lounge and bathroom.
The lease will see the tenant responsible for property maintenance, repairs and insurance costs.
