Redical, the owner of the shopping centre, is considering the next phase in its plans for the centre, following the approval of Havering Council’s Romford Masterplan last month.
The Liberty has been identified as having the potential to deliver up to 110,000 square metres of new residential accommodation in the masterplan.
Stephen Daniels, head of asset management and regeneration at Redical, said: “Since acquiring The Liberty Romford, Redical has been committed to enhancing and evolving the centre to ensure it continues to make a positive contribution to the town.
“As we look to the future, it is very important we engage with the community, our retailers and other stakeholders, and that we work with the right partners to help deliver the right outcome for the centre.

“Building on our work to transform The Liberty Romford, the addition of residential will bring a different dimension to the centre, one with the potential to significantly enhance the contribution it makes to Romford, economically, socially, and practically.”
Working with new development partner, Hub and its on-site team, Redical will now seek to engage with the community and other stakeholders, including retailers at The Liberty, to develop proposals.
Redical says it is not looking to fully redevelop the centre, but the plans could also seek to modernise the shopping space.
These plans follow multi-million pound enhancements implemented by Redical since it bought the centre in 2022.
Damien Sharkey, managing director of Hub, added: “There is significant potential for us to support Redical’s good work in making this bustling community hub even better than before, and we look forward to contributing to its next phase of additive development.”
