Police were called to The Grove at the junction with Great Eastern Road just before 12.20pm yesterday afternoon (March 15).
A car had collided with a pedestrian in the road. He was subsequently rushed to hospital, where he remains.
Today (March 16), a police spokesperson said that his injuries are “possibly life-threatening”.
London Ambulance Service (LAS) has confirmed that it treated him at the scene for “serious injuries”, before rushing him to a major trauma centre “as a priority”.
The first paramedics arrived at the scene within seven minutes, and London’s Air Ambulance was also dispatched.
Police have said that the driver of the car left the scene before officers arrived, and that enquiries are ongoing to trace them.
A police cordon was in place in The Grove yesterday afternoon forcing the detour of bus routes 69 and 257, but this has since been lifted.
