The Good Intent, in South End Road, shut on June 23 and will open its doors again to punters next Friday (July 11).

Photos shared by the Good Intent on social media show the revamp underway, with a stripped back bar and flooring, and the start of new paintwork.

The boozer dates back to 1818, where it is believed to have started from modest roots in a cottage.

It lies close to the former Hornchurch Aerodrome and airfield, and is said to have been frequented by pilots during the Second World War.

Before the pub closed at the end of June, there were air-force memorabilia and framed photos of Old Romford around the venue.
This new look will mark a major change since the last refurbishment in 2014.
