The Cube Canary Wharf review: competitive fun for all ages

Despite being open for more than a year, the deceptively large venue – which is 25 minutes from Kings Cross St Pancras and 10 minutes from Waterloo – is impressively busy when we arrive at Sunday lunchtime.

Inspired by the ITV gameshow of the same name, a total of 21 cubes await, each testing different skills such as balance, memory and speed.

Cleverly, however, just seven of these are allotted to each booking, ensuring a high chance of repeat visits.

I say attempt because some of the challenges are genuinely very difficult; those on the outside watching might think they look easy, but the pressure soon builds once you step inside.

With groups of four split into pairs, some games solo-only and points up for grabs, the experience is sure to bring out competitive sides.

After a downloadable app highlights which cube to go to, walking to the next game gives a chance to see how other teams fare beforehand.

And, pleasingly, those watching from the sidelines will still feel as though they are involved in the action.

While the activity is on the expensive side (£62 per person or £55 each for a family of four) – plus bar and restaurant spend – it’s certainly a unique way to celebrate a special occasion.
