The Crowning Angel, in South Street, opened on July 2 after a two-week long makeover, including a new sports bar and events schedule.
Formerly Yates, the pub hosted two reopening parties on Friday (July 4) and Saturday (July 5), complete with DJs, fire breathers and stilt walkers.

Downstairs, the venue has had a refresh to the bar area, with a new Crowning Angel mirror sign at the back.

The first floor is now home to the new sports zone, which is kitted out with two 7ft pool tables, one traditional darts board, two smart darts board and several screens to catch games on.

The upstairs bar has also been redesigned and refitted, while new signs reading “extra time” and Euro 25 are dotted around.
General manager Eliza Griva Alloway previously told the Recorder that the pub would not only have a new name but also a new “look and energy”.

She called the refurb a a “major transformation”, which marks a “bold new chapter” in the venue’s history.
Yates previously closed for a refurb on March 4, 2024 after being taken over by the Craft Union Pub Company, reopening a week later with a new bar section and entertainment schedule.
