If you’re looking for a scenic stroll, south east London is packed with beautiful green spaces, riverside routes, and woodland trails.
Here are some of the best walks to enjoy this season.
1. Greenwich Park to the Thames Barrier
Start at Greenwich Park, where cherry blossoms and daffodils are putting on a show, then make your way up to the Royal Observatory for breathtaking views of London.
From there, head down towards the Thames and stroll along the riverfront, passing the Cutty Sark and historic pubs.
Finish with a coffee or ice cream by the water – springtime perfection!
2. Oxleas Wood and Severndroog Castle
If you love a woodland walk, Oxleas Wood is a must-visit.
This ancient forest near Eltham bursts into life in spring, with bluebells carpeting the ground and birds singing in the treetops.
Take a detour to Severndroog Castle, a hidden Gothic tower, where you can climb to the top for one of the best panoramic views in London.
3. Beckenham Place Park
This sprawling park is home to south east London’s only wild swimming lake, as well as meadows, ancient trees, and a charming Georgian mansion-turned-café.
In spring, the park is buzzing with dog walkers, picnickers, and families enjoying the sunshine.
Take a gentle loop around the lake, then reward yourself with a slice of cake at the Homestead Café.
4. Thames Path: Rotherhithe to Tower Bridge
For a classic riverside route, start at Rotherhithe, where you’ll pass historic cobbled streets, old warehouses, and the charming Mayflower Pub (believed to be London’s oldest riverside inn).
Follow the Thames Path towards Tower Bridge, soaking in stunning city views and stopping at Potters Fields Park for a springtime picnic.
5. Sydenham Hill Wood
A hidden gem for nature lovers, Sydenham Hill Wood is a peaceful escape filled with ancient oak trees, wildflowers, and even the ruins of a Victorian railway.
This magical woodland is home to foxes, woodpeckers, and butterflies – so keep your eyes peeled as you explore the winding trails.
6. Dulwich Park and Dulwich Woods
Dulwich Park is a lovely spot for a gentle stroll among blossoming trees and open green spaces.
If you’re up for more adventure, continue into Dulwich Woods, one of London’s few remaining ancient woodlands.
It’s a little slice of countryside in the city, with winding paths and plenty of spots to sit and soak up the spring sunshine.
