The Baring, in Baring Street between Haggerston and Angel, has been nominated in the Greater London region of the National Pub & Bar Awards 2025.
Co-owned by Adam Symonds, former manager of the Bull & Last in Highgate Road, and Rob Tecwyn, former head chef of Dabbous, the Baring was named the highest new entry in the Top 50 Gastropubs list when it opened its doors in 2023.
The awards will be held in June, with The Red Lion & Sun in Highgate, which won the John Smith’s Great British Pub of the Year Award in 2016 and 2018 and is sixth in the Top 50 Gastropubs list, among nominees.
Adam said: “We’re very, very happy about it! I certainly didn’t see it coming and couldn’t be prouder of the entire team for working so hard to get us the nomination.
“We know Heath at the Red Lion and Sun and a few others, such as the lads from Shibden Mill in Halifax, so I’m sure the awards will be a lot of fun.”

The duo, who met while working at the Bull & Last, have just opened their second outlet, The Kerfield Arms, in Camberwell, taking over the former Crooked Well site.
This is the first time they have been nominated for this award, and Adam hopes The Baring stands out.
He added: “I’m not sure it’s a case of being better than anyone else, but we certainly offer something quite unique within the pub sphere.
“Our offering is centred around food and the menu is small and filled with the type of things we like eating, rather than pub classic – not that there is anything wrong with that, I should add.
“We are just very happy to be in the mix and looking forward to the day!”
