The Antelope, in Tooting, will welcome back customers on Friday, April 11, after being given a new lease of life by Urban Pubs and Bars.
The pub, which was originally known as The Foresters Arms, has been at the heart of the community for years, with a history steeped in sport, music, and local culture.
The refurbishment has seen the pub’s historic interior carefully restored, with three large rooms still showcasing elements of its interwar-period refurbishment.
The original U-shaped bar counter, an ornate island bar back with carved pillars, and a rare full-height glazed screen have all been preserved.
The Rankin Room has been given a fresh lounge-like feel, with space for up to 150 guests.
The pub’s garden has also been a major focus of the refurbishment, featuring a new outdoor bar and seating.
Chris Hill, managing director of Urban Pubs and Bars, said: “The Antelope is more than just a pub – it’s a pillar of the local community with an incredible history.
“Our goal, with the refurbishment, has been to respect the pub’s heritage while giving it a fresh new energy, making it the best version of itself.
“Whether you’ll be visiting for a Sunday roast, live music, a midweek pint, or to watch the game, we want The Antelope to feel like home for everyone in Tooting.”
The Antelope has a storied history of bringing people together.
It was here, in 1932, that Tooting & Mitcham United Football Club was founded, and in 1993, the pub hosted the first-ever promotion by the newly formed British Ladies’ Boxing Association.
Alongside a brand-new dining room and kitchen, The Antelope will unveil a revamped food and drink offering.
The new menu will feature seasonally changing dishes made with the freshest produce from top suppliers, including HG Walter, alongside an elevated Sunday roast offering.
Real ales will take centre stage at the bar, alongside an extensive selection of craft beers, wines, and expertly crafted cocktails.
Sport will remain a key feature of the pub, with all major televised sporting events screened throughout.
The Antelope will also continue to champion local events and musicians, solidifying its place as a true neighbourhood favourite.
With a site capacity of around 500, The Antelope is set to reclaim its position as one of Tooting’s most lively and welcoming venues when it reopens.
