Thames Water CR0 CR2 CR4 CR7 SW16 second day without water

Thousands of homes in Croydon and Streatham are facing a second day without water.

The affected postcodes are CR0, CR2, CR4, CR7, and SW16.

A burst pipe on Commonside East in Mitcham Common is responsible for the shortage.

As a temporary measure, water has been rerouted from other pipes, and it is hoped “all properties affected should have water back in your taps.”

The leak has been stopped and the excess water drained, according to Thames Water.

A large shaft has been dug to access the damaged pipe, and a second one is being constructed.

While repair work is carried out, traffic management equipment has been set up.

The public is advised to allow extra time when travelling in the area.

The repair work is expected to cause traffic delays.

A spokesperson for Thames Water said: “We’re sorry for the impact this may have on traffic in the area.”

“We’ll be working around the clock to get this done as quickly as we safely can.”

“We’ve managed to stop the water leaking from the broken pipe and have successfully drained the excess water, meaning we can now access the pipe and begin to work on the fix.”

An update on the situation is expected by 4pm today (July 8).
