Transport for London (TfL) has launched a public consultation on the future of the 424 which currently runs between Putney Heath and Fulham.
The proposed changes would see the route shortened to run between Putney Heath and Putney High Street.
A new route, the 454, would be introduced to cover the northern section between Putney Bridge Station and Fulham’s Stevenage Road, which serves Fulham Football Club.
The restructured 424 service would run every 45 minutes and include a one-way loop via Putney Hill, Carlton Drive, and Upper Richmond Road.
The new 454 route would operate either every 30 or 45 minutes, following most of the existing 424’s alignment north of the river.
However, it would run in a one-way clockwise loop at the Fulham end, using Fulham Palace Road, Inglethorpe Street and Stevenage Road.
In Sands End, the 454 would operate in both directions via New King’s Road, Bagley’s Lane and Townmead Road.
Under the current 424, additional roads are served, including Byam Street, Broughton Road and Pearscroft Road.
TfL’s plans note that the necessary highway changes for Bagley’s Lane have not yet been approved by the borough.
The public consultation will remain open until Sunday, January 11, 2026.
