Transport for London (TfL) has said that it will introduce a ‘Bakerloop’ bus this autumn.
The bus will stop at the places where a proposed Bakerloo line extension to Lewisham will go.
This extension would see new tunnels and track built beyond Elephant & Castle station, the current southern terminus of the line.
Trains would also call at Burgess Park, Old Kent Road, and New Cross Gate.
But the route for the Bakerloop bus will stop at more places, meaning passengers in key areas of south London will benefit from the new service.
On its journey towards Lewisham, the bus will call at – Waterloo (Waterloo Road), Elephant & Castle (London Road), Elephant & Castle (New Kent Road), Burgess Park (Dunton Road), Old Kent Road (Ilderton Road), New Cross Gate, Lewisham (Loampit Vale) and Molesworth Street.
The route, which would be designated BL1, is slightly different travelling in the opposite direction.
Towards Waterloo, buses will stop at – Lewisham centre, Lewisham clock tower, Lewisham station, Lewisham (Loampit Vale), New Cross Gate, Old Kent Road (Ilderton Road), Burgess Park (Dunton Road), Elephant & Castle (New Kent Road), Elephant & Castle (London Road) and Waterloo (Waterloo Road).

The new ‘Bakerloop’ bus service would be part-funded by Southwark Council through its levy on new developments in the area.
TfL also plans to introduce a number of other new Superloop routes, including SL11 between Abbey Wood and North Greenwich, and SL12 between Rainham and Gants Hill.
Other potential routes that transport bosses plan to consult on this year are the SL13 between Ealing and Hendon, SL14 between Stratford and Chingford and SL15 between Clapham and Eltham.
Geoff Hobbs, TfL’s director of public transport service planning, said: “It is great to see support for the ‘Bakerloop’ express bus running between Waterloo and Lewisham, which would enable us to improve public transport connectivity and capacity between southeast London and central London by delivering some of the same benefits that the Bakerloo line extension would.”
