Table Twenty Three is one of Upminster’s newest restaurants, promising modern British cuisine “with a twist” across brunch, lunch and dinner.
Since opening at 23 Corbets Tey Road in June, the eatery has racked up dozens of reviews on Google at an average of 4.9 stars, and a straight five stars on Tripadvisor.

With all this excitement surrounding the restaurant, I thought I’d pop in on my lunchbreak to see for myself what all the hype was about.
What I immediately noticed when I walked in was the polished but comfortable aesthetic, with vintage-style artwork adorning the walls and faux greenery lining the ceiling.
An earthy colour palette is used throughout, perfecting complemented by the homely welcome from staff; it was a lovely atmosphere straight off the bat.

It was also fairly busy for a weekday lunchtime, I noticed, with both families and groups of friends settling in for some food.
At the table, I was offered some water before even ordering my drink – which was much needed as I did have to spend some deliberating over their extensive drinks menu.
I eventually landed on the elderflower sherbet mocktail (I wasn’t decisive enough for a ‘make your own’ mocktail despite being intrigued by the idea), seemingly a popular choice as I heard several orders placed for this from other tables.

This was both exceedingly sharp and sweet, and, as such, was perfect for washing down my meal: a halloumi wrap with chunky chips.
Again I was spoilt for choice with the lunch dishes, with everything from grilled seabass to pasta and salads on the menu, as well as brunch options until 1pm.

In the end, however, the gooey halloumi, veggies and chilli jam packed into the wrap made me happy with my decision.
I definitely feel like Table Twenty Three has a modern menu showcasing the best of British – other dishes include bangers and mash and a full English.
But the “twist” remains a mystery to me – perhaps I will discover this when I go back for dinner?
