The Post Office confirmed that it is offloading 108 crown branches, which are those currently directly owned and run by the company, including 36 in London.
The process could see the sites taken over by other businesses, while others could face closure as franchises are moved to different premises.
One of those at risk is the branch in High Street, Chipping Barnet.
Petitions were launched by Barnet’s Labour Group to save both the Chipping Barnet branch and Golders Green post office.
In an update on the Barnet petition, which has grown from 351 to 2,585 signatures , Chipping Barnet MP Dan Tomlinson said: “The news about Barnet post office was a shock to many constituents.
“The conversation with the Post Office was productive, but the work does not stop here.
“I have made it clear that we must keep a substantial post office presence on Barnet High Street for the needs of our communities and our local economy.
“I will continue to fight for Barnet post office and a fair deal for staff.
“I encourage all constituents to make their voices heard and sign the petition launched in collaboration with our local councillors.”
Others listed were in Kilburn High Road, on the Camden and Brent border; Headstone Drive, Harrow; Kingsbury Road, Kingsbury; Upper Street, Islington; South Mall, Edmonton Green; and Stamford Hill, Hackney.
The Post Office said the plan, which is subject to Government funding, will help it to increase postmaster remuneration by an extra £250 million a year by 2030.
Post Office chairman Nigel Railton said: “Moving to a fully franchised network is one part of enabling the Post Office to deliver a New Deal for Postmasters, helping to create a long-term, sustainable future for the Post Office.
“By franchising these branches, we are protecting access to our services for communities right across the UK and realising £40 million worth of savings that will enable us to uplift postmasters’ remuneration by up to 10%.”
