Campaigning Haringey councillor Luke Cawley-Harrison’s crowdfunding has reached its £9,300 target to pay for the trees after attracting 200 supporters.
“One thing that has been missing in Crouch End is street trees,” he said. “This can leave us polluted and very hot in summer.
“But the support for the project demonstrates the community spirit we have here.”
The money stumped up is enough to pay for 30 new trees, exceeding Luke’s original target of 25.
His campaign launched with both the Crouch End Neighbourhood Forum and the traders’ association means saplings are being planted from next month till the spring, organised through the Trees for Streets charity with two-thirds match-funding from Haringey Council. Supporters now want another crowdfund appeal for yet more trees next year.
