Early designs have been revealed for a planned development at STC Sports Club – currently home to two football pitches and a bowls club.
Developer Sigma Strategic Land has promised that Kings Bowls Club will remain on the site, and has pledged to put £4 million towards outdoor sports pitches in Eltham.
In total, 205 new homes would be built on the land, half of which would be “affordable” housing.
“The Government has indicated that sites adjoining existing development that were previously not being considered for housing can now be put forward to meet the urgent need,” the developer said.
“Some of these sites have been described as ‘grey belt’.”
The proposals also include a new pavilion for the bowls club, as well as a children’s play space.
According to the developer, the scheme will help to meet the “widespread need” for more housing in Eltham.
They add that financial contributions to sports pitches in the area, aim to provide a “net gain in sporting provision across the borough”.
“It should also be recognised that around 24,000 applicants are on the borough’s housing waiting list, underlining the need for more homes,” they claim.
A planning application is yet to be submitted to Greenwich Council, and the developer has asked for local people’s feedback on the initial designs.
