This week, JRL Group, in partnership with Halcyon Development Partners, announced the submission of proposals to “breathe new life” into St Nicholas House.
The project will transform the vacant building into a co-living development, offering 359 high-quality units.
The developers say that the site aligns well with Sutton Council’s regeneration hopes for the town centre.
A big part of the plan is to keep much of the existing building, which helps reduce carbon emissions.
The developers will update how the building looks, making it a fresh new addition to Sutton’s town centre.
The co-living units will provide much-needed homes, including affordable options for key workers, and aim to bring more life to the area.
The project also includes a new permanent home for The Sound Lounge, a well-loved grassroots music venue.
They’ll get a purpose-built space designed to help them keep running in Sutton for years to come.
This is the second project under the JRL Halcyon partnership following redevelopment
proposals for a key High Street site in Woking which will provide 329 co-living units.
Construction is to start some time this year.
Paul Cummins, Development Director at JRL Group, commented: “We’re really pleased to
be working with Halcyon again on this project in Sutton.
“It’s a great opportunity to bring some much-needed, quality homes to the town centre and to support a valued local community venue like The Sound Lounge.
“JRL is committed to contributing positively to the regeneration of Sutton, and the redevelopment at St Nicholas House embodies that commitment.”
James Knight, Senior Development Manager at Halcyon, said: “It’s been great to partner
with JRL again, this time on a journey to bring our co-living model to Sutton town centre.
“The retention strategy provides a unique opportunity to reduce carbon emissions whilst
bringing vibrancy and animation to an otherwise redundant site.
“As we have seen from our other projects, the delivery of co-living accommodation on good accessible sites like this will provide much needed homes to local people including key workers.
“We are excited about the future for The Sound Lounge in the scheme, it’s a unique and inspiring local venue.
“The delivery of this scheme will ensure The Sound Lounge can continue to contribute to Sutton and the wider London music industry.”
