The event blends gaming, sound, and visual art, and will take place at SPACE Ilford on Saturday, January 31.
The exhibition, called Hiddenware, is the work of Spanish artist Robert Cervera and shines a spotlight on the unseen elements of technology and gaming through interactive installations and live performances.
Mr Cervera said: “I think of sound as another material within my work.
“This time I’m coming back to music with the mind of a sculptor.
“I see it as another element that I can bring into my installations, together with digital content, sculpture and space itself.
“I’m particularly enjoying composing music made with non-conventional instruments, which are actually sculptures made out of tubes.
“In Hiddenware, my exhibition at SPACE Ilford, I’m trying a new idea with these tube instruments: using them to create live soundtracks to gaming sessions, just in the same way that in early cinema there were musicians playing a live soundtrack on the piano to accompany silent films.”
At the heart of the exhibition are three local gamers who will play video games live in the gallery, accompanied by live musicians.
Performers will use an instrument built from PC liquid cooling tubes to create real-time soundtracks based on the gameplay unfolding in front of them.
The event runs from 4pm to 7pm, with the performance beginning at 4.30pm.
Musicians Anna Carter, Barnaby Slade, Cat Eden, Hanna Mbuya, Nicholas Hann, and Robert Cervera will take part.
The public is invited to watch the full session or drop in at any time during the event.
The performance will also be streamed live on Twitch under the handle HIDDENWARElive.
The exhibition and performance are free to attend, with refreshments served from 4pm.
The Hiddenware exhibition will remain open until April.
While walk-ins are welcome, organisers recommend reserving a free ticket in advance, as the event is expected to be busy.
