The Metropolitan Police was alerted to reports of a man with a knife on South Street at 12.34hrs today (December 11).
Officers were dispatched to the scene, where they located a 58-year-old man.
He was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon and remains in custody at this stage.
Enquiries are ongoing.
A Met spokesperson said: “Police were called at 12:34hrs on Thursday 11 December to reports of a man with a knife on South Street, Romford.

“Officers attended and subsequently arrested a 58 year-old-man for possession of an offensive weapon. He remains in police custody.”
