A planning application to refurbish the shops at 9 and 10 Market Parade, Portland Road, has been submitted to Croydon Council.
According to planning documents, the shops have been unoccupied for a number of years leaving them in a “state of considerable disrepair”.
Under the proposals, the two shops would be merged to form a larger single store.
On the first floor, the two existing flats would be refurbished, and a loft conversion above would provide space for a new flat.
The company behind the plans, Yosha Design, said: “Refurbishment is not merely desirable but essential to restore and enhance their structural integrity, utility, and aesthetic appeal.”
“By optimising and converting the first and attic floors into additional housing units, the project directly responds to local housing needs.”
Each flat would haveits own terrace, and there would also be a communal back garden.
There will be space for one car to be parked in the back garden, but the project, which would provide parking for three bikes, is described as “prioritising sustainable travel”.
Croydon Council is currently reviewing the application and no final decision has been made.
