The Metropolitan Police was called to South End just after 4pm yesterday (August 16) to reports of a crash.
A van crashed into the 40-year-old who was taken to hospital.
He remains in the hospital with injuries that are potentially life-changing.
Police have begun enquiries, though the Met believe that the injured man was assaulted just before the crash which caused him to fall into the path of the van.
Officers spoke to the van driver, and he was not arrested.
Anyone with any information who could assist with the investigation has been asked to call 101 and quote CAD5026/16Aug.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: “Police were called at around 16.10hrs on Saturday, 16 August to reports of a road traffic collision in South End, Croydon.
“A van was in collision with a 40-year-old man who was taken to hospital where he remains with potentially life-changing injuries.
“Enquiries are ongoing, however at this time officers believe the injured man was the victim of an assault prior to the collision which may have caused him to fall into the path of the van.
“The driver of the van was spoken to by officers at the scene. He was not arrested.
“Anyone with information with could assist the investigation is asked to call 101 quoting CAD 5026/16Aug.”
