South east London’s cheapest petrol stations in July

June brought a modest rise in UK fuel costs, influenced heavily by global instability.

Tensions in the Middle East – including reported Israeli and U.S. military strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities – caused Brent crude oil prices to spike from $68 to $78 per barrel in just seven days, according to Petrolprices.com.

This surge had a ripple effect on wholesale prices, with diesel rising by more than 10 pence per litre and unleaded increasing by around 4 pence.

The gap between diesel and unleaded widened considerably, jumping from a 3 pence difference to 10 pence.

At the pumps, drivers saw diesel rise by an average of 2.6 pence per litre and unleaded by 3.5 pence.

Supermarkets such as Tesco and Asda passed on the smallest increases to customers, while a strong pound helped stabilise prices slightly, preventing sharper rises.

Looking ahead to July, the outlook remains uncertain.

Further increases in wholesale prices are already being recorded.

Despite the rising costs, there are still places across south east London offering more competitive fuel prices.
