Babur in Forest Hill and Heritage in Dulwich are among the 28 London restaurants that have been recognised among the 100 Outstanding Indian Restaurants in the newly released British Indian Good Food Guide 2025.
The guide, which celebrates excellence in British Indian dining across England, Scotland and Wales, highlights restaurants that showcase outstanding cookery, consistency and hospitality.
Each restaurant is selected on editorial merit alone.
The guide editors wrote: “Indian cuisine has become one of Britain’s most accomplished and beloved culinary traditions.
“From elegant dining rooms in the capital to family-run kitchens across the regions, these restaurants represent a culture deeply woven into British life.”
Here are this year’s south east London winners:
Heritage, Dulwich
Described by the guide’s editors as offering “modern compositions backed by discipline and technique”, Heritage has become a local favourite since opening five years ago.
Led by chef Dayashankar Sharma, formerly of Michelin-starred Tamarind and Zaika, Heritage combines traditional recipes with contemporary presentation.
Diners can expect dishes such as soft-shell crab with mango and coconut, or tandoor-grilled venison with spiced beetroot.
Babur, Forest Hill
A fixture of the Lewisham food scene for nearly four decades since opening in 1985, Babur is celebrated for “decades of consistent delivery supported by warm hospitality”.
Babur has evolved from a local favourite offering a gourmet take on Indian fare along with a broad list of unique cocktails.
Known for its adventurous seasonal menus, the restaurant draws inspiration from regional Indian cuisines, from Kashmiri lamb rogan josh to Goan seafood curries.
