A huge clearance sale is now under way at the shop on 35–37 High Street, with up to 40 per cent off everything from groceries to clothing, health and beauty to homewares. Discounts will run until all stock is sold.
The store’s final day of trading will be Saturday, November 9, with a staff meeting set for Tuesday to discuss next steps.
Sidcup Partners BID said “high levels of shoplifting” were among the challenges that led to the decision to close the store.
Sue, Executive Director of the Sidcup Partners Business Improvement District, said: “It’s with sadness that we can confirm Poundland will be leaving the high street on 9th November.
“Staff have a meeting scheduled for Tuesday to discuss next steps.
“The decision has been influenced by ongoing challenges, including high levels of shoplifting and the growing impact of online shopping—particularly platforms like Temu.
“We’ll continue to monitor developments and explore opportunities for the unit once it becomes available.”
The Sidcup shop is one of three new branches added this week to Poundland’s list of closing stores, bringing the total currently offering clearance sales to 18.
Darren MacDonald, Poundland’s retail director, said: “The special reductions, on top of the value we provide in every store, will help us leave locations we’re leaving with pride.
“And when we close our doors, we look forward to welcoming customers to one of the hundreds of Poundland stores we’ll continue to operate right across the UK.”
Poundland was founded in 1990 in Burton-upon-Trent and now serves around 20 million customers each year.
In June 2025, it was acquired by global advisory and investment firm Gordon Brothers.
The company plans to continue operating between 650 and 700 stores across the UK and Ireland, where it trades as Dealz.
