The cafés at the Sidcup’s Westwood Lane store and Erith’s James Watt Way store are among 52 in-store cafés being shut down, following a new round of cuts revealed on Monday (March 24).
Morrisons says it will also close all 18 of its Market Kitchens, 17 convenience stores, 13 florists, 35 meat counters, 35 fish counters and four pharmacies.
A total of 365 jobs are at risk, although the supermarket says most affected staff are expected to be moved into other roles.
The closures come as Morrisons pushes ahead with a transformation plan under its new chief executive Rami Baitieh.
In a statement, Mr Baitieh said: “The changes we are announcing today are a necessary part of our plans to renew and reinvigorate Morrisons and enable us to focus our investment into the areas that customers really value and that can play a full part in our growth.
“In most locations, the Morrisons café has a bright future, but a small number have specific local challenges which made closures the only sensible option.
“Although these changes are relatively small in the context of the overall scale of the Morrisons business, we do not take lightly the disruption and uncertainty they will cause to some of our colleagues.
“We will of course take particular care to look after all of them well through the coming changes.”
The supermarket says some counters and cafés could be replaced with third-party food offers in future, as some services were proving too costly to run.
