The animals named Yvonne and Snaffles were being ridden by their officers Sgt Leon Astley and PC Grace McCormack at 11.30am on April 28 when they were attacked by the dog in Shepherd’s Bush Green.
The dog was seen in footage chasing the horses, making repeated attempts to bite at their legs.
Meanwhile the owner of the dog was struggling to bring it under control, resulting in members of having to step in to detain the animal.
There have been no arrests at this stage and investigations are ongoing.
The dog was seized and later returned to its owner.
The Metropolitan Police has confirmed that both Yvonne, 13, and Snaffles, 15, are recovering in their stables, and their riders walked away unharmed.

“Fortunately Yvonne and Snaffles are recovering well and being looked after in their stables.
“We know horses are not a common sight in the capital but we urge all owners to keep their dogs under control to prevent this happening again.”
