The Michelin Guide Inspectors have revealed their new Key destinations for 2025, highlighting what they consider to be the most outstanding hotels in the UK and Ireland.
Out of 129 hotels selected, only one in south east London made the list: Shangri-La The Shard, located at 31 St Thomas St, London SE1 9QU.
Michelin now awards 1, 2, or 3 Keys to hotels that stand out for excellence in hospitality, design, and overall guest experience.
These Michelin Keys are the hotel equivalent of the famous Michelin Stars for restaurants, offering a mark of distinction for properties that go above and beyond.
Shangri-La has years of experience creating luxury hotels, especially in tall buildings, a style they have perfected in many Asian cities.
Even the standard rooms at The Shard are spacious at 30 square meters, with marble bathrooms, heated floors, and sweeping views over Kent, Surrey, and Sussex.
As rooms and suites go higher, they get larger and more lavish, offering stunning vistas of the Thames, the City, and iconic London landmarks.
Guests can dine in an Asian-inspired restaurant, unwind in the Sky Lounge or the 52nd-floor bar, and enjoy the spa, which features Europe’s highest hotel swimming pool.
While London offers a wealth of iconic hotels – from Claridge’s, The Connaught, and The Dorchester in Mayfair, to The Ritz, The Lanesborough, and The Berkeley -Shangri-La The Shard provides a uniquely vertical perspective on the city.
Its soaring location atop the Shard ensures a stay that is as much about the view and atmosphere as it is about luxury.
For those seeking the ultimate blend of contemporary sophistication and unmatched vistas, this south east London gem stands apart from the city’s traditional luxury hotels, offering a fresh way to experience London from new heights.
