This fragrant and striking climbing shrub usually flowers around late April to early May, lasting up until June, and it’s one of London’s most highly anticipated floral spectacles to see.
But you don’t have to go to the streets of Notting Hill or Chelsea to find it, as south east London is home to some stunning locations to see it like Eltham Palace, Well Hall Pleasaunce and The Sexby Garden.
Located in Peckham Rye Park, The Sexby Garden is one of south east London’s most recognisable wisteria hotspots, with its atmospheric wisteria walkway which many capture shots from underneath.
Aside from the wisteria, the park also features Victorian architecture dating back to when it first opened in May of 1895, named after prominent horticulturalist John Sexby.
The gardens are located within Peckham Rye Park and feature nods to Old English Garden designs, which was a popular design choice at the time for Victorian gardens.
The park was later restored in 2004 and now features an array of seasonal blooms, along with an ornamental pond and paths lined with Yorkstone paving.
