Firefighters have cordoned off Seven Sisters Road between Hornsey Road and Berriman Road this morning (October 13) at 8.33am following reports of the leak.
According to the London Fire Brigade, this is at a residential building on the corner of Seven Sisters Road and Hornsey Road.
Following the evacuation, a rest centre has been set up at Sobell Leisure Centre on Hornsey Road.
Over four and a half hours later at the time of reporting, a closure remains.
It is unclear when this will be lifted.
The London Ambulance Service said that while an incident response officer and paramedic was sent out, they were stood down by the Metropolitan Police.

A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: “Firefighters are currently responding to a gas leak at a residential building on the corner of Seven Sisters Road and Hornsey Road.
“Seven Sisters Road is currently closed between Hornsey Road and Berriman Road, so please avoid the area if you can.
“Due to the necessary evacuation of several properties, a rest centre has been set up at Sobell Leisure Centre on Hornsey Road.
“The Brigade was called at 0833.”
